Projet Explor’ae EVOSEX coordonné par Florent Murat

Ce projet propose de renverser un dogme mammalien afin de mieux comprendre pourquoi et comment le déterminisme sexuel des poissons téléostéens est constamment remanié et vulnérable au climat. Notamment, il visera à tester l'hypothèse selon laquelle l'inactivation des chromosomes sexuels durant la méiose (MSCI), bien décrite chez les mammifères, n'existerait pas chez les poissons téléostéens, ce qui favoriserait la plasticité et la sensibilité de leur déterminisme sexuel face aux changements climatiques.

The EVOSEX project, coordinated by Florent, is funded by the France2030 EXPLOR'AE program with a budget of 150,000 € for a duration of 18 months, starting September 1, 2026. This project aims to challenge a mammalian dogma to better understand why and how sex determination in teleost fish is constantly reshaped and vulnerable to climate. Notably, it will test the hypothesis that Meiotic Sex Chromosome Inactivation (MSCI), a process well-documented in mammals, does not exist in teleosts. The absence of this process may promote the plasticity and sensitivity of their sex determination to climate-driven environmental shifts.
